I'm currently deciding between a Saab Sport Exhaust, an ECU upgrade, or perhaps even an intake or intercooler. I'd like to add some sound and HP with about a $1200 budget. Open to any other suggestions (it's obviously a turbo by the way)...

You are not going to like what I am about to tell you, but, that's life sometimes. The year and model you own will not respond well to performance mods. The reason, the pistons in this engine, (the 205), have a very high failure rate. I have two engines in at this time being re-done with new forged pistons. We have done 3 engines besides the current this year already. Saab will not acknowledge having a problem however a call to your local dealers parts dept. will reveal stock replacements on the shelf. Something you rarely find a parts department having to stock. We have a couple of theories as to why the failures are happening but nothing solid as of yet. Best thing you can do is put in good sound and watch the revs, One of the current engines pistons actually hit the underside of the head when it broke. Wish I could give you roses, but the 2000 thru 2003 2L turbo engines have problems, and I love Saabs, own 7 myself, but facts is facts. If you need future info just drop me a line. Good Luck

I would just find a good mechanic and give him $1200 worth of beer. You will soon have a saab story to tell.
