I was looking at a car ad, and it stated that this '88 saab didn't have a turbo. What does this mean?

It means one of two things:
It once had a turbo and it was taken off of it.
Or
It was manufactured without a turbo in the first place.
Best to just look it up like I didn't.

It's a straight 4, not as much power, good on gas mileage though. Had one, loved it for commuting around town, but hated it for any "speed" activities (getting on the Eway, passing cars, etc). In response to the previous answers, not all Saabs are turbo charged. There weren't alot of them that weren't turbo charged, however they do exist. As mentioned, Saab is well known for their turbocharged I-4 engines, and as such most people don't realize they were also available without a turbo.

saabs are known for there turbo charged motors, the first company to put them in a major production car. the non turbo will last longer, but not as much fun.
