I have a Saab 9-5 Wagon (2004) that I'd like to check out the computer for, and possibly program some options. Not engine performance - I know there are programs for that, like the BSR PPC, but just little convenience things, and just get an idea for what I can do.

Is there a site somewhere that gives instructions on how to access the computer? I don't mind buying some equipment if it's not too pricey, but I'd think a certain amount can just be done with the onboard information panel.

Thanks

your goin to need a unit called a tech 2. its the official gm diagnostic tool that we use at the dealership. its about $3,000 dollars. i really dont understand what you are trying to do. ask your local dealership/independent saab mechanic if something can be done that you have in mind. but usually the techs at the dealership will be trained the best in the new cars

Hey there. I have a 2001 Saab 9-3 Turbo. I'm getting the BSR PPC from Elkparts.com and understand your plight. As far as programming the "convenient things", rather than retuning the engine (although they connect at the same port), I would check underneath the steering wheel.
I usually watch for a while when I take my Saab to the dealership for refurbishing or a checkup. They have a machine with a wire which attaches to a small opening under the steering column, allowing the machine to read the ECU.
I would assume you might need whatever machine the technicians use, but unfortunately I have no idea where you might get your hands on one.
But definitely check under the steering wheel, and your car manual may even indicate where the spot is exactly in the '04.
Good luck!
