Once heard ( credibility of source?) that a turboprop engine always puts out the same RPM's, you increase power or decrease powere by changing the pitch of the prop. Believeable or Bull---. Thanks

I have a friend who is learning to fly and is about to do her first solo flight. I did mine some time ago and don't recall if I went out of my way to buy my instructor a present. What is usually done in this situation? Buy him a present, or just a beer at the next social event, or just thank him for getting you so far? She is the only female student at the club so doesn't want to feel akward by giving/not giving the guy something!

I know you can't fly through clouds unless you're flying IFR, but do you have to file an IFR flight plane to just fly through clouds, or do you just have to have your instrument rating to fly through the clouds, with no flight plan filed.

Whats the engine difference between a:

Rolls Royce
General Electric
Pratt&Whitney

Mainly RR/GE engines are on offer for major commercial aircrafts such as B747/767/777/787 and A330/340/350/380 etc. but is there really a difference such as price, performance, efficiency, noise and so on?

I can only tell the difference by eye, but thats about it. An RR engine spins anti-clockwise but GE/PW spins clockwise. also, RR's engine shell is longer compared to a GE's, shorter and have a long cone protruding out at the back. And if I'm correct the RR's spin blades are curved (from the front) instead of a straight blade... also the $999.00 RR decal...

But anyway, I dunno why I prefer RR engines...

Is it the apron? Is it the whole cemented area of an aerodrome? Do people even use this word anymore? I know I've heard it in the past, but I spend a lot of time at airports, and never hear it.
