As Walt mentioned, there are many. VOR's send a beacon from a phased array that tells you what 360 degree radial from that beacon you are on or flying through. Picture a compass laid out on the ground. As you fly towards or away from that compass, the VOR (or Very high frequency Omnidirectional Radiobeacon) shows what arm of the compass you are on. You can also fly through one of the "arms" such as would be done on an intercept.
NDB's or Non Directional Beacons are an older radio beacon that sends signals out in all directions the same and the Automatic Direction Finder on the plane homes in on it and turns a needle towards the beacon. Many NDB's are currently being phased out by the FAA. Instrument Landing Systems also send out beacons from an antenna array at the end of a runway with two narrow beacons that tell the plane its alignment with the runway and its position on the glideslope.
And most recently, there are Wide Area Augmentation System stations that send out correction signals to augment the GPS system to enable approaches that are similar to an ILS at a non-ILS equipped airport.

The generic term would be Electronic NAVAIDs, NAVAID being short form of Navigation Aid. Many technologies are used for Electronic Navigation like VOR, ILS, TACAN, DME, LORAN, MLS, ADF etc.

VDF
VHF direction finder, works quite similar to those ADFs, but it homes on the VHF frequency transmitting. the source might be the tower, or the aircraft. the other must be capable to lock the source and give him the homing instructions.
