I'm doing a project, and I just need to know if anyone knows the statistics of this happening.

*engine failure
*navigation system failure
*compass spinning out of control

Very unlikely... I do not know exact statistics but I do know that engine failure is probobly the most likely of the three you pointed out... the compass spinning would require some very odd circumstances... NAV systems, even in small aircraft are redundant and thus, if NAV1 radio fails, you still have NAV2...

I'll assume you are talking about airliners and failures that lead to a crash. Small malfunctions and glitches are fairly common. Maybe 1 out of 10 flights for a modern airliner will have some small issue that does not affect safely of the flight.

Full up engine failure (remember that have at least two) really only happens if they run out of fuel. There have only been a handful of these cases is the last few decades. Modern turbine engines are extremely reliable.

Navigation systems include several types, including GPS and various types of land based systems, all working together. Total failure is again, extremely unlikely.

Compass systems only spin out of control in movies.

For the record, the most likely causes of airline crashes are human error and very bad weather. You could probably actually find statistics for these on the NTSB website.

The stats are 100% that any mechanical device will fail at some point. The object of the game is to maintain your aircraft in such a manner that the occurrence will be unlikely.
Navigation system failure is most likely, some of it being electric. Engine failure is also likely, some times from undetermined reasons.
The magnetic compass only spins out of control in the Bermuda Triangle, so don't go there.
You can look for the statistics the same as anyone in this forum, so get crackin'!
