I always wondered about this. There are thousands of airlines, and each of them has their own seat map, seats, IFE despite its similarity. So, who designs this? Does Airbus or Boeing receives specific requests from airlines or does airline designs it individually? Or is there a separate third party who only does this?

I assume the F-103 was perhaps a concept plane that may never have even reached the prototype stage, but I would still like to know what was; specification, mission, stage of development at cancellation, etc. Think this would be interesting historical reading.

Was it really McNamara that broke the consecutive numbering tradition by insisting the USAF call the Phantom an F-4, as in the Navy?

Who makes the assignments? What is the criteria to make a new model sub-designation (example, F-4C, F-4D)?

Thanks.

I want to own my own small plane (at least a single engine, two seater aircraft). Used planes also acceptable to me. Is there anyway I can achieve the same here in India? Does the govt. have any red tape around, which have to be overcome? How can I fulfill my dream? What is the total cost which I may have to shell out? Do the banks help in this????

I've always wondered why DME is calculated via slant distance! Since we have two sides of the right triangle, hypoteneuse and height, distance from the NAVAID should be easy to attain via a simple algorithm. Why, then, do we calculate DME using slant range?

I saw in AVIATION magazine years ago, that there was work being done on a small personal Jet that seemed to be a civilian jet airplane (with two small jet engines on either side like a leer jet - small enough for either just one man or two men.
I really liked it and can't remember the name, the company or the cost. I'm really interested in buying one. Does anyone know the jet I'm speaking about?

I forgot what it was called but there is a facility in airports that allows layed over military personnel to relax. While they wait for a plane or just someone to transport them to a base. They often have a snack bar, a place to safely store your luggage, and a nap room.

Anyone know what it is?

I am going to meet some friends but they can't pick me up until a day after I arrive and they will be leaving a day earlier than me, so I need crash space when they're not around. (The jacked up schedule is result of me staying two extra days and saving 600$ on a 2 hour flight...)

Also: Do I need orders or will a military ID suffice?

in fact I pay only 10% with british airways + landing fee.

so a trip from london to USA cost me around 60-70$ all included (the guys at the custom were simply jealous, ahahah when i saw them my return open ticket).

and I can book when i want, and set my return when i want.of course this is in stand by, so if the plane is full, I can not board.

I travel traveller plus or in business when I ask for a free upgrade, I always ask.....

do u think I am lucky, my girldfriend is simply disgusted!!!specially when I ask if can get an upgrade class just before flying, and I get it usually.

my gf says such privileges doesnt exist in USA, well I dont care I am an EU citizen, and I fly for free worldwide....

so next time you book a ticket, think about me.

Today is National Aviation Day and the celebration of Orvil Wrights birthday.
Why don't they recognize Wilbur Wright on this day?
Didn't they have equal roles?

I recently flew to Europe and had a connection in Amsterdam. The first plane was late and I had to literally run to the next gate to make my connection. I did make it, but was sure that they did not have enough time to transfer my luggage. To my great surprise, my luggage arrived at the final destination together with me! How did they do it, is there a highly efficient luggage transfer system in airports? Is it possible that my checked-in luggage traveled by a different route?
