We live in NYC and each make about $65-70 a year. We have each been in the 30% bracket roughly. I have some friends who have been just raped by taxes after getting married. One couple we know were bumped up to the point that they are making less money after getting married. We do not have kids, and don't plan to, also we don't own, but do plan to buy in the next two years. We are going to have a chat with our accountant at tax time, but I'm antsy. Please share your expertise or expereinces.

He owes me money. I asked for the right to keep whatever tax money we get back. I am not sure he will give me the w2's so I can get them done. Can I call his previous employers and request them..saying they were lost? Also what happens if he just decides to get them done and file married but separate? We have very little communication. I really NEED this money! Help! Thanks...

Mr and Mrs Y file a joint return, no dependents and take the standard deductions. In 2005--each made $80,000. Mr Y spent 335 days of the year living and working for American employer in Bulgaria and the remainder of the year back in Texas. Mrs Y maintained their rented home in Texas. Mr Y is eligible for the foreign income exclusion and Mrs Y is not. What is their 2005 tax bill?
In 2006 same issue, what is their 2006 tax bill? Why is their liability so hugely different?

I bought my house in May of 2006 in Ohio. Ohio bills property tax one year in arrears and I ended up paying for the second half of 2005 taxes. My settlement statement at closing read '2005 taxes paid in full', who is at fault here and how do I go about getting the money back that was taken out of my escrow account?

I grossed almost $45,000 this year and my wage was $15.55 an hour. Next year I will be making $18.00 and am going to go ahead and assume I will break $50,000. I am filing 0 with no dependents and taking out an additonal $20 a paycheck. Is this going to help me at least break even on my taxes or do I need to take out more? Thanks in advance

I became self employed in April of 2007 while still holding a full time job....
I have not made any estiated payments for the year of 2007 but I am on a payment arrangement with prior years for back taxes owed

I am worried I have missed my deadline and now my arrangement with be thrown

Can I still file in April with everyone else and start 2008 estimated payments fresh..

I realize I will have penalties and fees but will filing in 2008 default my agreement?

And does the IRS consider a "buy and sell" transaction as 1 trade or 2 trades?

Cheers!

I have been told by my employer that they are going to start deducting 100% of my paycheck until a $5000 bill is paid. This is termed a "levy". I called one of those tax negotiation companies and and was told that I don't qualify for an Offer in Compromise because I make too much money. Has anyone dealt with the IRS successfully?

I'm the worst procrastinator. Call me a dummy but I knew I was going to be getting money back from the Feds so I just filed for the Extension so I could file after April 15th. However, the months have just gone by.. Now that I have some actual vacation time at home this holiday season, I decided to do my taxes.

Lo and behold, TaxCut won't let me file via e-file.. so a little web search reveals that October 15th, 2007 was the deadline for that... Ok.. so..

Yeah, I did actually do my taxes (finally) even though it's Dec 2007.. And yes, I'm due money. Can I still send in my paper return?

I heard conflicting info that Oct 15, 2007 was the deadline to file to get a refund. Others said we have up to 3 years. I couldn't find any definite answers on irs.gov.

Please, does anyone know?

This has never happened to me before. I've always filed early because I get a refund every year. This year, I just dropped the ball.

Thanks in advance!
