I'm in a bind for money, and my son's dad said he would give me some money to help me if I would agree to let him claim him on his taxes. I usually make around 26,000-29000, but last year they held out money for student loans I was behind on, and I still owe them, so I'm sure they'll do it again this year. I could still claim 1 other child, but I wonder how much of a difference it will make? I usually get the earned income credit also. Anyone have any suggestions?

I pay more property tax than my neighbors. I appealed twice. However, I was not success. I frequently receive letter from company claim they can help me to reduce my property tax. They only share 50% of first years tax whatever they saved for me. I am wondering should I believe them or not.

Gratefully,

I just got my US Permanent Resident card - got myself 1 full-time job and 2 part-time jobs (as independent contractor). Will each of my employer withhold Federal & State tax? Will each of them withold Social Security & Medicare?

If yes, is there a chance that they might "over-withold"? And if so, will refunds be difficult? I am just starting out in the US and I have been searching website after website and could not find a simple website for one with limited financial understanding.

Help!! And thanks in advance to all!

I want to finally do the 1040 EZ and maybe get a return, since it seems like I have always owed money when I was married.....I will be single at the time of filing my taxes in January so I think I should be able to file as single. Thanks for the help!

Can I file exempt for the last two months of the year and not get in big trouble? I have made over $100,000 so far this year and paid over $28K in total taxes. Will I get myself into more trouble than it's worth by changing my W-4 to show exempt for these last two months? I want to not have too big of a pay cut for many reasons, mainly because of debt payment plans I recently set up counting on my payscale staying where it was at the time.

By submitting the payment online. However, they charge $3.00 for an e-check and a 2.5% convience fee for using a credit card payment. Is this an example of our local government's stupidity?

Hi, I earn 70K per year in the state of Texas. I just had a child and am wondering if it would be more beneficial to use the company's dependant child care flex account or should I just claim the child care tax credit at the end of the year? Thanks!

I was delaying my move date till February so I could file before I go, but is there a way to get W2's online and file online? I can buy and install H&R Block's Tax Cut which will allow me to prepare my own taxes and e-file, but my main concern is getting my W2's. I don't want to risk having them sent to an international address for obvious reasons (unreliable mail service, slow delivery, lost mail, etc...)

Also, what are the requirements for filing taxes in subsequent years in which no income is earned in the Unites States. I am planning to live and work overseas for at least 5 or more years.

I am currently under contract to sell my home (a primary residence) in NYC. At the date of closing, I will have lived in my home for just over 3 years. Can someone please confirm that I will be eligible to exclude any capital gains tax on the profits I make on the sale? The profits amount to less than $250k. I have read tax code 121 several times over, and my only confusion lies with the "within 5 years of the date of sale" language. Does this mean that I need ownership of at least 5 years? Please advise!

My husband started working for the City of CC and of course being a heavy equipment mechanic one must have their own tools. He has purchased several items adding up to almost $2,000. We have saved our receipts. Can these be considered tax deductible since they are used for his job?

Additional Info: He is the only employed person in the household, and we usually file Married filing Jointly-. We are homeowners but do not have mortgage payments.
Thanks!
