By submitting the payment online. However, they charge $3.00 for an e-check and a 2.5% convience fee for using a credit card payment. Is this an example of our local government's stupidity?

WOW.... that is simply amazing. Good for you for figuring it out instead off just falling for it!

If you have online banking, though, you could send it electronically to the address and avoid the 41 cents without paying any other fee!

Beat them at their own game!!!

Cheers

Probably some marketing type running out of control.

I had a similar enclosure in my property tax bill in MO a few years ago. I made a point of taking the check to the tax collector and handing it to him personally and calling him on the carpet about it. He sheepishly admitted that I was one of several hundred residents who had called or came in to bring that to his attention. They haven't repeated that gaffe since.

I don't think it's a reflection on your government's stupidity. I think it's a reflection on what people these days will pay for convenience. People will pay that so they don't have to go to the trouble of finding an envelope, addressing, walking to mail box etc.

It's a good example, but at least they are correct that you would save a .41 cent stamp!
