hershey's chocolate is moving there plant from HERSHEY .PA
to a site in mexico to raise production and lower costs, while they have no plans on making there product cheaper to the consumers, my question is :

do you think it would be a good idea to put an import tax on foreign outsourced goods to encourage buisnesses to remain in the US,every year over 1million people lose there jobs to foreign outsource

and on a side note, the import tax imposed on the buisnesses could be put to relief the tax on oil and natural gas

There are taxes on cigs in all states. But some have a "USER" tax. I.E. If you live in IL but go to IN to buy cuz they're cheaper. You have to pay an additional tax to use the cigs in IL. Lots of people in IL getting hit with big taxes now on this cuz they bought on the internet and shipped to IL. Wondering if all states have this tax?

Do I have to claim financial aid on my taxes? When all of the aid isn't used I get a rebate check, and it's not only for the loans but the grants, too. Do I have to put cd's on my taxes? I have a $3000 one now for when I am doing an internship and won't be making any money. If I don't put these things on my taxes, what are the chances of getting caught?

Used to work for a trucking company, settled everything as far as keys etc go the day I quit. They told me that they would cut me a check on Friday when I went there they told me it would be the next day. Now they are telling me that they would not pay me untill they got an estimate on a small damage that was done to the truck. Is this legal?

Do you think that if everyone in the country claimed "exempt" on their W4 starting today that the government would finally change the tax laws? They would have to do something different, dont you think , i mean they cant arrest 200 million people.
so if after claiming exempt and refusing to pay in at the end of the year , what kind of reaction would there be , from the IRS, or from the government.

I hesitate when using the word "government" as if its some seperate orginization, the government is the people. WE are the government. the people who we refer to as the government are only appointed by us to represent us. And yet it seems that they only represent themselves and their interests. I dont remember getting a vote on their pay raises.

after all the constitution says that we are all exemt. that income taxes are unconstitutional.

Assuming we are to maintain the current federal tax revenues (meaning the same amount of tax dollars are to be collected), and also assuming it is an impossibility that everyone will somehow end up paying the exact same amount in tax, then there is a shift in who is paying the taxes.

I have heard the proponents of the Fair Tax suggest that because the rich buy more they will be paying more taxes than before.

I have heard those against the Fair Tax suggest that that the burden falls more to the middle and lower classes because the rich will have more disposable income for investment, whereas the poorer classes have to spend all their money.

Does anyone actually have any factual hard evidence to support either position?

Anyone want to comment on why we spend so much time discussing taxation and so little on controlling Federal spending? (and yes, I am part of the problem with this question).

I'm just wondering, no one died that made me aske this.
I have a few scenerios I am curious about.

Scenerio one is...If the person recieved their check, but died before cashing it or putting it in the bank, what happens?

Scenerio two is...If the company cut the check, but the person died before receiving it.

Scenerio three is...the company did not yet do payroll and got notice of a person's death...do they still cut the check?

Oh, I just had another thought, what if they are receiving unemployment?

Okay, finally my last thought, does someone file taxes on their behalf, or does the goverment luck/lose out.

(Now cross your fingers or pray that I don't ever have to really find out the answers to these questions....but thanks in advance for the answers.)

Curious, My "X" is primary custodian (big surprise in this legal system). Is my "X" able to deduct upto 5k or is it only 2.5k?

I thought married couple could do 5k, but solo parental units where 2.5k...which of course I'd do the same..and enjoy reducing my income by the 2.5k as well for our son :)

BTW. we have a good working relationship in his regards and he is the best thing ever..in my life :)

I'm just trying to maximize irs tax deductions. etc

My brother's ex-wife filed taxes for the year 2006, in which they were still married. If she filed jointly and forged his signature on the tax forms, does this constitute fraud? What sort of penalties and fines would be imposed?

I'm just wondering. I just finished my second year, with roughly 300 federal returns completed. I'm not a great preaprer, I am honest, I do think I'm a good tax preparer. Most customers were friendly. One pet peeve, a client who would come in without even opening their W-2's, or any tax info. I opened A LOT of important tax info. Or would not have a SS number that was needed...or lied on the interview.

And people who bring their young kids. I have nothing against kids, just please find a babysitter for an hour.

I signed a 2 year no compete contract at the beginning of the just completed season...no matter, I'm done. I like doing taxes, and I'll keep up with what is going on, just no more doing other peoples returns. I'm finished.

Who will be preparing returns next year?

I'm married filing joint, my wife raises our two kids and does not work. make 85k a year. I max out my 401k -15.5k, six months into the year. I think I remember mt accountant saying I can contribute 4k to a roth and recieve a credit for my wife, but I'm wondering if I can contribute as much as 15.5k to a retirement for my wife. I might not be able to afford to but it gives me something to shoot for. It seems like I should be able too. I mean If we broke my 1 salary over two jobs we could totally do it so it seems only right since we are married filing joint. Any info is appreciated. Thanks.
