Your best bet for this is to have the 2005 software from either TurboTax or TaxCut or whichever, maybe borrowed from a friend, and figure the return on that software because the forms, rules, and tax tables from 2006 will be somewhat different. The tax code says that a person has to use the proper forms and follow the rules for whichever year they're filing.

Once you get the return done with the 2005 software, you will have a chance to print it out. Print a couple or three copies while you're at it, and put one in the mail to the IRS.

Now, you probably can order the 2005 forms from the IRS web site, fill in the amounts for everything except the tax amount, and have them figure the tax for you when you mail in the return.

H&R Block does do prior years' tax returns, if you wanted to go that route, or if you get stuck someplace in the process.

Hope this helps.

Because you can't e-file a prior year's return. I doubt any site is set up to complete returns under the correct rules for prior years. That said, as long as you actually file on paper, the IRS doesn't care how the return is prepared.
