I forgot that I had to file paperwork for another state that I lived in for most of last year until I moved out in the end of November. Will they still accept my paperwork in that state even after the due date of April 17th? Will I be eligible for a refund?

i have a relative who has been unemployed for several years, and this combined with other things led him to attempt suicide a couple of months ago, when he could no longer pay the rent.

he finally got help (medication), and a friend took him in, but she is a schoolteacher like me, and no better off financially.

i have been sending money to this relative to help out as much as i can. he is another state, so i can't claim him as a dependent, and i don't want to, but can i deduct the amounts i send him on next year's taxes? and if i can, what evidence do i need- would the checks be sufficient?

I don't know where my certificate is. Last year IRS didn't ask for the certificate number & who issued it. This year they are. I called the bank that issued my mortgage. They said they can't tell me how to find the certificate number. How do I find out my mortgage certificate number & who issued it.

Our daughter was born in May '06. We had trouble with a spelling error on the vital record, with the result that we still haven't gotten her an SSN.

(It's my understanding that we absolutely CANNOT claim her without a number. Is this technically true!?)

Anyways, my question is this: If we file now without her, can we modify our filing later on, after she has been given a number? Like, if we apply and get her a number next month, is there a form we can submit changing our 2006 taxes after filing, so that we can still get the deduction?

I was recently forced to pay my medical insurance provider back $188,000 for services given to my son for a spinal cord injury. The reasons were the medical plan was a qualified ERISA and my son received compensation from a third party. The funds he received were placed in a structured settlement for future payment and are far short of what his life care plan assessment projects his future medical costs to be. Bottom line is that I was forced to reimburse the insurance company for all medical expenses which in my view would classify the payment as a medical expense.

I have a relative in deep do do, he is disabled and on SSI and SSD. He tried to work but got laid off. He is limited in income. I can't help because I am medically disabled.
He financed the car through a Bank. Then the loan got sold to a finance company. He stopped paying. The finance company repoed the vehicle and claimed a loss on the loan, charging the vehicle off.
The IRS is saying the loan is considered "a debtors income" and he is being subjected to paying $2000 dollars to the IRS

I have to file California state tax 540NR. Since I am not a CA resident I have to pay taxes on income "from CA sources". I have received interest and dividends from E*Trade. Is that "from CA sources"? How do I know if income shown on 1099DIV statements are from CA sources?

Hi. I thought that the deadline for filing for a federal tax extension, and the dealine for the california state extension were the same. Then I heard from someone that they're not, and that the CA extension had to be filed a day earlier. Is this right? I'm not sure what to do now. Also, is it possible to file a california extension a day late (4/17), or can I just not file an extension now? If it's too late, what will the penalties be? Unfortunately, I do owe money, although not a lot. Thanks!
