My boss asked to call in the payroll @ 40 hours, to pay employees O.T. with a co. check 80%, Is this Tax Evasion? That is he only paid them 80% of their overtime, and I don't think he is planning on reporting it. What should I do if I am the bookkeeper? Am I involving myself in illegal accounting practices, if I call in the payroll? We also have a CPA. Or is the CPA the responsible one?

I just bought my own home a few months ago and I am self employed, I was told that it would be a write-off on my taxes, but does anyone know about how much or what it depends on since I have my business in my home as well (I've always gotten a percentage off for that) I live in Nevada if that matters. Thanks!

I know if you apply as Single One and Single Zero on a Tax Withholding Form, it means either you get more money now on your paycheck or more money on your tax return. Now that I am no longer a dependant though, when I fill out the form, I come out as "2" because I am independent and my 2nd job's wages are under $1,000. What does this mean? Will I be getting less money now and more money later or vice versa? Or am I simply just getting more taxes taken out never to be seen again? If I didn't explain my question right, please let me know! Thanks! :)

I'm just wondering what should I claim for allowances on my W-4 so that I don't get screwed in the end on my taxes? I don't want to end up paying in. The way I set it up today I put Married- Zero allowances- with $10 extra taken out of federal and $5 extra taken out of State. I can easily change it and would appreciate anyone's input on what's the best way to go about this. Thanks!

My husband and I just found out that our refund check for $1800.00 was stole from our mail box(we think) and cashed. After a 6 week investigation it resulted in finding out it was cashed 2 weeks ago. The check was issued to us on May 5th,06. It was issued to both my husband and I so how the heck did someone pull this off? The IRS says it does happen but I know that in Arkansas that both parties have to be there with ID to cash the check and with that high of amount it should be impossible! Has anyone had this happen? How long did it take to get a new check? This sucks!
