If you are an American citizen working in Canada, you will need to pay Canadian tax, and then file a return with the IRS. They will give you credit for Foreign Tax Paid, so you will not have to pay double taxes. You may also need to file a return in Canada. You may want to contact a chartered accountant in Canada and a CPA in the US to complete your returns.

If you live in Canada, you might also be able to exclude all or a portion of your salary income from U.S. taxable income. See IRS Form 2555 at www.irs.gov
