The federal basic personal amount of earning before taxes for 2006 is 8839 and each of the provinces have there own amounts, usually slightly lower then this.

What is the maximum we can earn living in the Province of Quebec ? Ontario for example is 8,377 for 2006 .

Essentially, with no other factors, deductions, income, exemptions, you can earn this much income and not pay any FEDERAL tax in Canada, but what about Provincial tax, is that different ?

I live in Ontario.

Last year I made $28,940.67 and I paid:
Income tax $4084.94
CPP $1260.91
EI $541.19

I paid $13,337.50 in rent last year. Is there a difference if I claim single or common law? If my girlfriend lives with me and I claim commn law, does she have to claim the rent expense if she made more than me?

Thanks in advance for any help...

For example, your income for 2006 is less than $10,000. Can you anticipate to receive a higher refund because your income was below a certain level? Do you qualify for more deductions because of loew income?

Ever since I started getting a yearly tax refund, I would always receive $200 to $500 back when I got my taxes done. Last year, I went to get them done and I suddenly owed over 1000 bucks. I didn't get any increase in pay or change jobs, so how do I suddenly owe money when I didn't do anything different compared to last year?
