A co worker has been telling us that the IRS is hounding him for money. He told me that about three years ago he was forced to declare bankruptacy and now has to pay taxes on the amount declared,is this true? we think he lies because he owes some people money.

A letter included , with instructions to call the phone number ( provided) before depositing the check.
The check was to cover the taxes on a larger amount soon to come. But the check amount was larger than the amount of the so stated taxes.
I did do a little research and found that the bank the check was drawn on is real and located in America.
Does anyone know what else I can do to find out if this is a legitamate win?
I must say I am the person who enters any and every sweeptake that is " free" to enter and with "no purchase neccessary".
Therefore I am kinda hoping that I finally got lucky . But on the other hand , I have also heard of the scams .
If anyone has any info concerning this matter please inform me

I'm single, I have no children, rent an apartment and I will be starting a full time time job in Sept. I will be making 36,600 a year, and I will be claiming '1'. How much can I expect to have deducted from my paychecks? 1/3, 1/4, 1/5?
I know its impossible to get an exact answer, however I am just looking for an estimate.
Thank you!!

I'm thinking of moving my mostly computer based biz to Japan. I'd still buy and sell things via computer to US customers, use my US bank, pay taxes there, have my computer address as US. But since I'm living in Japan (my wife will work in Japan and use her salary for our living expenses), will I have to pay taxes there as well as in the USA?

This is because I did not report my stock trades for year 2005.
Now IRS sent me an error report saying that I did not report my sale of stocks.

I bought few stocks in Dec 2005 but sold them in the beginning of 2006.

Which trades should I include in my return for 2005?

Should I include the sale of stocks in 2006 which I bought in 2005?
If not how do I report those stocks?

Please help!!!

I have been asked to work temporarily for 3 months while someone takes a leave of absence. I presently receive unemployment benefits. working for this company, I will be getting paid without being on payroll and therefore will receive a 1099 to file taxes since I will be paid straight out. How does this effect my unemployment benefits and what steps do I need to take to inform (if i have to) EDD of my temp position?

Thanks in Advance

I just got a new job and had a baby. I go back to work Monday and I am now taking a bus to get to the city 2.25 each way so 4.50 a day and I pay 675 a month for childcare 4 days a week.

Can you write these things off in your taxes so it is like money you never made. Example if I pay 1200 a year for the bus ride is it like I made 30,000 instead of 31,200 if that is the situation. And the same thing for the daycare, can you write it off so it is like i made 20,000 instead of 30,000 if I paid 10,000 for a year of daycare? I get a receipt for daycare but not for the bus? Thank you any help is greatly appreciated.

At work they have this account where they can take money out and pay your daycare and it is like money you never made but it is complicated and if you don't use it you lose it and I would just rather do it in my taxes if possible if it is the same scenio.

Thanks

I have a substantial amount of $$ from an inheritance. I want to put a chunk of it towards my mortgage and reduce my monthly payment and not pay the bank so much interest. My wife thinks that we should not do this as we benefit from the interest on our taxes. I think for every dollar of interest we pay we only get 30 cents for a tax benefit. Who is correct?.
