If I could, what part of fees that I can file on the income tax?How about for the expenses we had when we went to Florida to buy that property? Is it considered as business trip? Can I also file all the expenses we had during that trip?Where in the tax form should I include all of those expenses? And also for the property itself, where in the form should I include the fees? Please help me. Thanks

This is in addition to the standard deduction that I am told is 10,700. So, if my husband is not working, and it's just myself--can I claim the married with two---and I was told that the deduction for myself and my husband is roughly around 1500 each?
True/false?

I have been using H&R block for the past few years but I don't have many deductions or anything like that, pretty easy from what I've looked at and I want to do my own this year to save some money. I've seen some tax programs out the but there a little more than i want to pay so I want to know of some cheap tax programs that you've used and liked. Thanks

I did a state return through TaxEngine and had to pay to file the state electronically, federal was free. I kept waiting for the refund, when I went back into TaxEngine, they said it was rejected by the IRS, but didn't say why. Said state did not go through since Federal didn't. Am I entitled to get my $10 back I paid with my debit card since state never went through. Naturally their website does not have a live person to talk to.

I was billed in December for my 2007 spring semester, but my school did not post my grants to my account untill January (so they don't show up till next year). So on my 1098-T for 2006 it appears that I have a large out of pocket expense I could use to claim Tax Credits with, however next year on my 2007 1098-T it will appear as though I have a large income from grants. What am I supposed to do?

Can I save my 2006 1098-T and apply those exspenses to my 2007 taxes?

Additionaly there are qualifying fees that were paid by myself in 2006 that I would like to claim tax credits for, how do I do this with my current 1098-T situation?

In case I was unclear, here is a simple example:

Tuition is 9000, fees are 1000. I was billed 10,000 in 2006 and I paid out of pocket 1000 in 2006.
So my 2006 1098-T would be:
Expenses: 10,000
Grants: 0
My school posted my 9000 grant in 2007, so my 2007 1098-T will be:
Expenses: 0
Grants: 9000

I am trying to estimate what I might owe in Federal Tax for 2008. (trying to do a long-term picture of my budget). I will be filing married jointly--my husband does not work, and between the two of us, the only income, at this point in time (until I find a teaching job) will be 15,360.

If I am able to take the standard deduction, am I correct in thinking that i will also be able to claim a certain amount for my husband and myself? (married, claiming two?)

I would like to know from other fellow self-employed colleagues what figures they provide for their working tax credits.
Do you give the amount you have earnt all year BEFORE deductions e.g. £8500
OR do you give the amount you have been taxed on which is your business income minus business expenditure (and which is a lower figure). I think it should be the 2nd. The helpline just say they will accept whatever figures I give them. If it is the 2nd I would need my figures recalculating that have given them in the apst over the years, but if it is going to be detrimental to me then I would rather leave it. I also hate having to give estimates on next year -who can see into the future?! Thanks

I wrote covered calls against a stock that I own (with a short-term holding period). The calls were not "qualified" because I wrote them less than 30 days before expiration. I later closed the position by repurchasing the calls at a loss.

A few days later, I wrote more covered calls (with a later expiration date) against the same stock. I believe this makes the previous transaction a "wash sale" and that I can't claim the loss, but must add it to the basis of the new position.

The question is do I report anything on my tax return for the wash sale transaction? If so, what do I put on which form (Schedule D?, 6781?) and how do I indicate it's a wash sale?

For Up to £33,300k p.a, it's 22%, then it goes up to 40%.

Are you therefore worse off earning £33,400 than if you were earning £33,299?

How does it affect other things like Pension etc?
