you file only one for federal income tax and file for the respective states where you earned income for the year 2006.

Federal taxes, no. State taxes... you'll have to file taxes for the two states you earned income in.

You just add up the boxes in your W-2s when you fill out the Federal. You will need to fill out two separate state tax returns if they both have state withholdings.

For federal, you add them together on one return. You'll probably have to file a state return for each state, though.
