with no employees. Our accountant tells us that as a sole proprietor with no employees, we cannot do payroll. Our relative tells us otherwise. Also our relative told us that we shouldn't be filing a schedule "c" on our tax return. I thought that all small business owners file schedule "C". Does anyone know about payroll or schedule "C"? I am very confused. Our relative is trying to lead us to believe our accountant is inefficeint. Please help!

I would like to lower my capital gains tax as much as possible. I already know about the income tax bracket and the length of time you hold a stock affects the capitals gains tax but is there any means to reduce capital gains taxes? (For example IRA Contributions)

What is the best way to protect my capital gains earnings? (Legally of course!!!)

To properly structure a loan between family members so as to avoid tax consequences to the person being lent the money, does the person lending the money need to charge the prevailing rate of interest. If so, is the rate prime plus one, or some other amount. Are there any other potential requirements that I should look into?

TOI reported about a month back that the benefit under section 54 is being overused resulting in a lossof tax revenues to the Govt. It said that now the only way of saving the capital gains arising out of sales from your property is to invest in infrastructure bonds. Is this already a law or just a proposal ?
