Travel expenses are inclusive of expenses like dry cleaning(laundry), client entertainment and per dieum expenses that are day to day expenses.

Transportation expenses are more related to the actual expense of the transportation to the end destination. This could include a plane/train/bus ticket, gas (fuel), Etc.

The reason for the separation of expense is because of taxation reasons. The Government differentiates the two expenditures and tracks them separatly.

Best wishes- hope this helps!

If you are a salesman and use your car to travel to see customers all expenses associated with this travel would be considered travel expenses. It could include fuel, meals, entertainment, and most anything else spent while on the road doing your job.

If the company the salesman works for ships goods to his customers then those are considered transportation costs. These expenses are normally associated with shipping by common carrier, rail or similar means, although it could be associated with trucks owned by the shipper. If the goods are shipped by common carrier, then those costs would be considered transportation costs. If the company ships goods by their own trucks, then all costs associated with the shipping would be considered transportation costs. These could include labor (such as drivers and shipping personnel), fuel, insurance costs for the equipment, equipment payments and depreciation costs.
