I moved to the UK 2 years ago and am still paying New York taxes every year. I was told that I can avoid this by filling out a form to declare that I am no longer a resident of New York. I have been all over the web to try and find this form and no luck. Can anyone help me? Even my accountant didn't know (maybe time to get a new accountant :-)

I know someone who hasn't filed their taxes in 5 years, and they went to a tax attorney and were told that they will owe about $45K...could they also get prison time? Would the IRS be easier on them because they are now making it up on their own?

Should there be a tax incentive to lose weight? Should fatties have to pay more tax? Would this help prevent the fat epidemic in the west?

Ok so here's the story...

I have been living in Greece for 4 years. Not paying any insurance/stamps over here.
Have never had a job in the U.K, not been on the dole, not paid NIS.
I have a national insurance number but have never used it. Have never had a uk tax form.
Once had a Greek tax form but after the 1st year they stopped sending them as i guess i have nothing to pay (the Greek accountant said if i havn't received one don't worry about it).

Now... What happens if i want to move back to the U.K and work/live?

Someone said i will owe 6years worth of stamps (left school at 16, now 22).... and will be paying 33% tax on my earnings to begin with..... Is this right?

Please help im getting rather scared now. I didn't know i was supposed to pay anything if i didn't work.

In June of 2002 I was laid off from a major oil and gas company in Houston. I recieved a prety good severance package from which I took out $10,000 cash put it in an envelop and tucked it away. After spending the rest of 2002 and all of 2003 looking for a stable job and not finding one, in 2004 I decided to pull out the money and try my hand at starting a company doing website development and consulting. I was up to my neck in credit cards, so decided "NO MORE CREDIT CARDS", and went cash and carry, for the most part. Used my amex, and debit card some but not much. I needed computer equipment, since the company had always provided one, so went to swap meets, garage sales, etc and bought used equipment. Most of my receipts are those you get from a supply store. Everything I bought was cash. I closed the company at the end of 2005 when the money ran out, now I am being audited for 2004. What can I expect in the audit? What will they be looking for? I can supply more info if needed

I won a trip from Marlboro Racing School with $3000 of it being cash and the additional $9000 is for the trip, etc. I know I have to pay taxes on it, but I have no idea how much that will be. Any ballpark figures would help!

Do you think it would be a good idea to stop issuing dollar bills (would save a bunch of trees in the process) and have it replaced with a plastic ATM card; that way people will be unable to avoid taxes, since there will be a computerized money trail?
