When you buy cigarettes from EU the duty is paid when you buy them. Each packet has a special sticker or label to show that they have been purchased duty paid.
However to import in any quantity you would need to show and even prove that they are for your personal use only. If you smoke a million a year then that is what you could import. A more realistic quantity would be under 20,000 for your years supply. I bet you have a devil of a cough and just think of the cost to your family for your future medical care.

Yes, by post: http://www.tobaccoonline.co.uk/, or personally. There is no limit, technically, so long as it's for you own consumption, so multiple brands, etc., are out!! However, UK Customs and Excise are a law unto themselves so can confiscate anything, and do, even your car if you bring stuff in that way, without giving any reason. I know people who have regularly brought in a suitcase full of cigs, tobacco and booze, only to be stopped on an odd occasion and have it all taken ....without reason.

Yes, if the duty has been paid in an European country, and they are not for re-sale in this country, it is legal to do so.

Most people make the mistake of paying cash and hauling them through customs, go to Holland, which has a low duty, and pay with your credit card, ask for a tax recipt.

take your till recipt with tax on it, and your transaction recipt through customs with your mountain of fags.

do not buy 20 different varieties, unless you can blagg it as you have to state that they are for personal consumption. If you re-sell them, you then fall short if inland revenue laws, and will recieve a massive tax bill, for the full 17.5% tax and additional loading, and will have to claim back the tax from the Dutch government.. not a good idea.

I have given up smoking, but usally buy four varieties, once a year, and tell customs that they are for me, my wife and my parents whom live with us, and that this is about 7 months supply, as I do not get the chance to travel as much as I used to do.

when they threaten you, produce the tax recipt, and state that the duty has been paid, and do you want me to contact my MEP myself, or would you like to phone him now, to clarify the law.

they always threaten to keep an eye open for my credit card/car and to distroy my cargo if I try this again, to which I reply, that I will indeed do it again when my supply has been smoked, and that you will do exactly the same than as you are doing now, nothing - but I walk away as I say the last line..:0)

MEPs do not have individual constituencies like MPs. The UK is divided up into regions with the number of MEPs for each region dependent on the population. There is a system of proportional representation political parties rather than individual candidates are voted for. The number of MEPs each party has in each region depends on the number of votes cast for each part in that region.

to find your MEP use the link below, and enter your post code... remember to smile when you are being searched, be polite and have the phone number of the overpaid eurocrat ready...

that is the best way to wind up customs and get away with it.

Yes, I think your customs allows either 150-200 cigs. Check with customs.

you can as long you don't re-sell them. If you planning getting them by post, attach the invoice [you have to have one, that proves you paid vat] outside the packaging.
