Small Business - November 2006

I am going to start as a sales rep. and I would like to know what is in the new kit because to make sure I get my kit I want to make sure I put in a personal order to make sure my show is at least $350 and don't want anything in duplicate to show at partys. I have asked my leader but she isn't sure because she has not had a new member in a while and she said they haven't discussed it at the last few meetings she went to. I know they have changed the tealight lamp but has anything eles changed? What about any items being retired in 2007 that might be in the kit? Sorry I have a 100 questions and I do ask my leader but I also want some other input. Thanks for any help anyone can give me!!

I have had a disasterous and expensive dealing with a very unprincipled vendor (pabsdirect) and one of their products (packardbell dvd recorder). e-bay and paypal are useless at dealing with disputes and are very dismissive about their responsibilties, so I want to go to a forum where I can warn other potential victims. Got a good site anyone?

1. For a small, one person business at home, do I need a license?
2. When should I launch my website?
3. How do I trademark/copyright my name so no one can use it?
4. How will this change my end-of-year taxes?

I am located in CA and my friend located in Boston,MA. We are thinking of setting up a small business which will primarily provide services to customer in both state. What is the cheapest way we can set up a legal entity. For forming a LLC we both have to pay filiing and taxes in both state which we want to avoid. I am disabled and love to bake cakes. I can not hold a part or full time job. In short would like to make my cakes from scratch at my home to make a few dollars in helping to make ends meet. I am talking 3-5 cakes a week 3 would be fine. What do you thing of this Idea - and how would you market the cakes as well? I have tryed about a year and can't seem to sell much even though they are very good. One last thing - I do not get out of the house much.

Does anyone know why a business would price an item at $9.99 instead of $10.00? Or even $14.99 instead of $15.00? I realize that there are obvious reasons for doing this but does anyone have actual textbook knowledge on this information? Maybe someone that took a marketing class and learned about psychological pricing? More importantly, why is that prices of items in HIGH-END stores mostly end in .00 and prices of of items in low-end stores in .99? Why won't Saks price a shoe at $399.99 instead of $400 and Zappos price a shoe at $100.00 instead of $99.95?
