Small Business - November 2006

I've got a shop and just wondered if there was a standard mark up percentage that's used. Some suppliers provide an RRP price but some don't so I have to trawl through ebay and other internet sites looking for similar products. Is there a standard percentage to use?

I am wanting to start selling low cost items on EBAY. Due to the fees that I will need to pay to EBAY and Paypal, whats the lowest price that i should ask for something and still be able to make money? It seems to me that some people sell stuff and actually lose money after they pay all the fees.

I have been looking for Grant information to help with my business. I found a web site called "My Grant Resources" also "MGR Today." I applied for a grant online and they called and stated that I was approved for an $18000.00 dollar grant BUT I have to send in $449.00 first. He said the cut off date for grants is Nov. 16, 2006. The name of the guy who called from this Co. is Joe Cane. The address he gave is: 14781 Memorial Dr. Suite 1999 Houston, Tx. 77079
The phone # he gave was: 1-877-931-2249
The web site for this co. is: http://www.mgrtoday.org/

Please help me to verify this and find out for sure if this is a scam or if it is legit. I really need this to keep my business.

she only put sum money up, everytihngs in my name, been in business for approx 3 months & she sells at an outlet on a tuesday
& caught her red handed today selling 'her' stuff & shes still saying she only tested them to see if theyd sell !!
I was with her all morning & she never metioned new things. See I dont normally go to the tuesday outlet, I have had my suspisions for a while about her selling her separate products, but was still abit shocked when i found out for deffo...

My friend and I are looking to start a painting business. We want to go in 50/50 as partners. Can we just make up a business name, or do we have to file paperwork to make it legal. Also how do taxes work? Do we file as a business, or would we just claim the extra money we make at the end of the year along with our individual income taxes? I know we have to file a self employment tax, but do we do that if we file as a company? I am looking for the name of a specific gift-giving company. This place allows a person to select a price or price range. From that, you can select a specific booklet/mini-magazine based on the interests of the person receiving this as a gift, whether it's a boy or girl and age of the person receiving this as a gift. The booklet includes many different cool gifts within that price range and geared toward that interest. The person who is receiving the gift then gets the booklet as their gift and can select any item from that as their gift.
