Has anyone successfully used the prosper.com service to borrow money? How did it work out, what was the outcome? Can you recommend any other non-traditional lenders someone could turn to in order to get their business started?

I understand the basics...but I just started a new job where a 401K plan will be available to me within a year and I've never had one, so I really don't know what to do with it. My company is matching (half) of whatever I put in there at the end of the year...

Also I was thinking if they did it periodically throughout the year it would benefit me more than at the end of the year...is that true?

I am a student rushing through college, yeah I know I should stop that really. But my gpa is now low and I would like to know how can I still be able to work for the big 4. Also just because I do not work for the big 4, does that mean I will not be able to make the big money? My last question is... do accountants go back to school for a degree RELATED to accounting? Or do they just graduate with accounting degree and get a CPA and start raking in the huge bucks. I hope this question will be seen by some. I am just a confused student right now.

I am 34. I am not married. I still live with my mother. I work two jobs, one fulltime and one partime. Overall, I make about $40,000 gross. Right now, I have save $147,000. That's NOT counting interest, so it is quite more. Do I have enough money to survive if I should lose one of my jobs? Should I continue to still live at home, rent-free?

I would like to clear the decks without taking on an additional loan due to past money mis-management and lack of financial control. Have an enormous pension fund as 'future' collateral so looking for creative and legal solutions. Suspect I need a hybrid of a debt lawyer and a pension/mortgage specialist. Additionally my partner in the US (Houston) is looking for an investment fund to secure her home - would it be possible for my pension fund to both provide that guarantee and be used as a growth investment at the same time? Suggestions and ideas please? Does such a talent exist?

I filed for bankruptcy May 28... I sent June payment to the mortgage company and it was applied to an escrow account on insurance for the house (that was due but they had sent an earlier communication allowing pay to add to the monthly payments) instead of posting towards the payment. Since I filed for bankruptcy I haven't received any communication from them. My meeting with the trustee is August 2nd... am I supposed to continue sending them payments before the trustee meeting, should I wait? why are they not sending me statements? The mortgage company is Washington Mutual.

My mortgage is with Countrywide, and if you've seen the news today, they're starting to get hit with issues stemming from subprime loans.
I wondering whether this is something I should be worried about or not.
My gut feeling is that it shouldn't matter. I have an established loan with a good fixed rate. They can't raise my rate or anything like that, everything is contractually bound. If they go bankrupt (which is unlikely) my loan still shouldn't be affected as far as I can tell.
What are other people's thoughts here? Is there any reason to be concerned about financial issue at your lender?

I am trying to offer a reasonable amount to a lawyer in order to close a court case. I owe on this credit card, in which went to collections and now to a lawyer, $16??.00. I called the lawyer today and offered them $700.00 to close this debt. (Really the balance was $1391.00 but they tacked on other fees and interest.) I exsplained to them that I have not worked in over 6 months, and just started a part time job that does not pay much. And I am in need to have a surgery done within in 6 weeks that will put me out of work again. I am hoping they will accept my offer. Does anyone know if this will work? And if they don't accept this offer what next?
Please any suggestions?

P.s.
I am reading the Dave Ramsey book The total Money makeover. I've heard from Dave that this type of offer will more than likely work. But what if it does not, then what?

I know the best thing to do with that kind of money is to put it in a bank, but a savings doesn't give enough interest as to where a "CD" does. I'm not sure to put this in a College Fund or use a CD. Cause I know I won't ever be using this kind of money. What is the best solution for me?

I just wanted to know if anyone knows of people who list on here that are scams(lenders wanting to borrow money 2 u)
I have had some emails and they sound fishy, one is from barclays loan. I thought if we could(honest ones) compile a list of scam lenders vs. good lenders, especially for those who have bad credit. They don't need their situation worse. It's terrible people prey on those who are really in need. Thanks for all your imput and help.
