(Somehow my parents were able to get them to let me attend when I didn't have all the money.) They're not actively collecting - but are witholding my transcript (for 3 lousy semesters) as a result. No scheduled payments. Will Chapter 7 erase this bill? I really want to go back to school and I'm not getting any younger. I stay at home with my 3 young children right now and my husband works. Child care costs were exhausting my entire net income, so I decided that I would stay home instead. (I need more education in order to get a job that would make enough money to see a profit after child care). I've had many credit problems as a result of having to leave work including a reposession of my car and a judgment for a hospital bill from when I gave birth to my first child. My credit score is very poor right now and has nowhere to go but up. Also, if I file for bankruptcy without my husband, what happens to my house - which is in both of our names? We've never been late on a mortgage payment

We have a large balance on a credit card. We have every intention on paying it and are making monthly payments on it...they are small but its still better than nothing. We received a summons & complaint from an attorney who had the account turned over to him. The attorneys office wants a huge amount monthly to pay off the balance but we can not afford it.
The card is in my name. My husband is the only one that works. We have 2 children and for me to work and place them in daycare, would put us further in the red.
What are we supposed to do? Whats going to happen once it goes before a judge and a judgment is entered?

A friend of mine insists that saving money is more important than paying off credit cards. I advised her to take the money earmarked for savings and add it to her credit card payment. Her co-worker (a self-proclaimed financial expert) advises her that savings is most important but I'm not sure he knows about her debt situation. While I agree with her co-worker, the fact remains that paying off credit card debt at 14% takes priority over saving at 2%. The only exception I could think of was "emergency savings" which I do believe should take priority over credit card payments. Am I correct?

Ok, We got a joint acct in august 06. We both put 50 dollars a week into a personal acct which should leave PLENTY of money for the bills and to put away in savings. The whole idea was to use "OUR" money for bills and savings, and use personal money for things we want.

PROBLEM: he uses our money for stuff he wants, and then complains that we havent been able to save much money. When I confront him with the facts and ask him what these purchases were for, he gets defensive and goes off on a tangent about how he had more money when he had a personal acct. Im NOT going back to having seperate accts because I always paid for food then. He never went to get groceries, it was ALWAYS me. AND that was unfair to me since he ate the food too.

So how do I confront him with all of this without starting a fight with him. I HATE fighting and we dont do it often. He just gets so defensive about money! Any ideas on what we should do? Thanks.

Lets say I retire in the future with 2 million dollars(Roth IRA+401K). I am thinking of a way to maintain that money, but while trying to live on the interest I Could possibly get. Let me know if this makes sense. Lets say I have that 2 million and I use 1 million of it. I can do what I like with the 1 million and invest the other 1 million in a 1 year cd at say 5% APY. Is my math correct here? That means on the interest of that CD(which I believe is paid out monthly) I would get $4,167 montly just in interest. I am thinking it would be smart to try to maintain the money I have from my retirement. I could then live off that interest for as long as I feel necessary and then take out my 1 mill principal and throw it together with my other 1 million. I have been retired, but will show no loss financially. Now my point of doing this would be to leave my grandchildren some money for college and other things like that. Obviously I cant take the money with me, but I could pass it on. Thoughts

I just don't understand. What is this garbage about payments going to interest instead of the principle or just the balance? If I have a 100 dollar payment where 90 goes to interest and 10 to the balance, does that just mean that my loan has $90 of interest charges per month?
