I have just closed 2 accounts by letter. I just said that I want to close account No. ???? and I want the balance to be sent to account No. ???? They automatically then cancelled the card, but you might need to cut this up and send it back at the same time. The banks website will have addresses to send correspondence to. Hope this helps.

A letter dated and signed by you mailed in should be enough to close the account. But I would always call the customer service to double check on what you need. They might have a specific form that you have to fill out.

You will need to go to your local branch with some id. Also you will need to hand back any cards or cheque books you have on the account so that they can be destroyed

Each bank has its own policies. The best thing to do is to call your bank and ask what possibilities you can have regarding your will.

You can close it by letter. However I would send it by recorded delivery that is so you have proof of postage.
