When I did my taxes last year, the tax preparer said based on my W-2 that I CAN NOT contribute to an IRA. I withdrew my contributions for the year and have not continued since.

What is the limit to use an IRA? If I am over, what do I do with the money that is still sitting in there?

Thank you in advance,

Like a car?

I know the rate, but what does that mean?

Is it the total balance times the rate each month?

Or is it the total balance times the rate (for the year) divided by 12 (for just this month)????

Is it really that complicated? Am I that pathetic that I can't figure out how much interest I am paying each month?

Conversly how do you figure out interest on savings each month? (k side note, I have savings worth interest! err not much, but more than pennies!)

(Additional side note, IF husband works the same OT for the year, and IF we stay in budget, and IF there were no interest, we could pay the car off this year! course that is a lot of ifs! Most likely to fail being the interest, so I need to figure it out)

I am trying to create an excel spreadsheet for my income and expenditure over the year, and on a monthly basis. I used to be bale to do this but have forgotten the formulas. I have been trying: SUM=(B2*B9) to get a subtotal, but just end up with the formula in the subtotal box. Then I tried: Sum=(B2+B3+ etc, which didn't work either! What am I doing wrong? Any experts out there can help me please?

I have been partially approved, the operator told me she would send forms to me that I should return with an administration fee of £47.00. She then said if I do not get approved I will get this back, does this sound dodgy to you????

My husband and I at our income level are not able to contribute to ROTH IRA. If I understand correctly if you make more then 100k you can not even transfer from IRA to ROTH IRA until 2010 ( they singned some bill in august this year that will allow everybody to transfer in that year)

We are ~ 28% tax bracket.

I currently have old 401k that I am planning to transfer to IRA = 35k, and planning to put max in IRA for both of us from now on = 4000k per person per year.

Now the question :)

Would it be smart for us to transfer all our IRA to ROTH IRA in 2010. We would have to pay tax, how much tax would that be? What is taxable when you transfer? Considering that we are in 28% tax bracket now, and probably will be in much lower tax bracket when we retire, is it smart to pay tax on it now and transfer to ROTH iRA or is it smarter to just pay lower tax on regular IRA when we retire?

Please help, i am completely new to whole finance world, but i am trying to learn.

I find it slightly wrong that people who earn a normal amount get a bit 4p interest from te bank a year (after they've took off all the interest they've paid TO the bank off!)

YET a rich person gains 1,000s of pounds worth of interest a day/week just for letting their money sit there.

Rich people already have the money - and they get more.
Normal people barely have enough money and they get none.
Poor people have NO money and they get even less.

A bit backward?

Hi I just turned seventeen and I'm going to school and I have a part time job. I understand that I should pay for most wants, but my parents should pay for my basic personal needs like razors, shampoo, toothepaste etc.
They agreed to pay a monthly amount so I can choose how to use it whichever way I need to since I probably would know what I need more then them. How much money a month should I get? (just for like basic necessities)

ive heard that people who pay this way (myself incuded), pay a flat rate or something of the sort, and can in fact get a rebate or be due one, apparently you have to ring them to find out how much it could be, what i want to know before i ring them, if this is actually true, i dont want to make a fool of myself, does anyone know ? thanks

we are both in our late 30s and make about the same amount of money.but 5yrs ago he went thru a nasty divorce which left him in debt.the reason being is he allowed his exwife to make him feel guilty about leaving his family so he gave her everything car, bank accounts, stocks, house plus a large child support payment.i feel this was his chose(except child support) and he should have thought about this before he allowed his ex to get the better of him.if i give him the money(which i could)what stops him from giving her more when she poors on the guilt trip which she does all the time.i know this makes me sound like a b-tch but how would you feel if the ex wife gets to go on cruises(on your bfs child support money) and your bf has just enough money to go to the next state with you? this really happened!am i a bad person because i don't want to fund her next trip?
