ok, i asked a question about this topic and it was closed so i couldnt ask follow up questions. But im still not understanding what IRA's and Mutual Funds were. Everyone keeps saying its worth the risk, and thats all fine up until u actually lose the money and then was it really worth it. Like i said i have no financial background, dont anything about investments and stocks, so i feel it would be foolish of me to invest and not know how exactly it works. Is there anything besides those 2 that grow good interest but that is much more to what a savings account is. I dont know how stock flunctuates or what businesses are doing good, so could give some other options, and please remember i dont have a financial backing, so using financial vocab would be just like u are talking to me in japanese

Would my bank let me set up a savings account if I am constantly in my overdraft for most of the month? Or would they want me to clear my overdraft first? I need something where I can put something like £50 a month into a seperate account (otherwise I spend it).

...you are not consistantly paying back the interest.
Whether this gives interest free or a lot lower rate.

I have a colleague at work I'd like to help get back on the financial track. I'm thinking if she could move her debt to something that doesn't accumilate she could then destroy her cards and start clearing her debt properly.

Thank you so much to all the people who answered my question concerning creating a sum in excel. I now have a spreadsheet for my finances-gulp!

However, I now need to continue the claculations between 2 or more worksheets. The problem is that the letters are the same on all the worksheets so is it possible to do this or do I have to treat each page seperately and then sub-total individually? Thanks again for all your help.

For example: I have read that Oprah Winfrey is worth £760 m. What exactly does this include? Has she an disposable income of £760 million? Is is tied up in shares or in business to which she does not necessarily have exclusive or immediate access?

Another dollar Uncle Sam takes.....
To me it is very true as Uncle Sam takes at least 1/4 of your paycheck every payday.

They actually had a lady, who had a fetish for purses, and a debt of $20,000, start up a website. She asked everyone to send her $1.00 to help her get out of debt, and before she knew it, she had $13,000 from people who visited her website.

Could you ever see yourself begging people to help you? They had several people doing that, even Screech from "Saved by the Bell".

Lets say I have around 3k in savings. Should I put it in a long term investment (such as an IRA) or should I pay off 17% of my student loan?
I ask because I know the longer I wait to put money into an IRA or a long term saving account the less I will end up with in the end.
