Write to the bank branch manager and tell him

1) That you find the charges excessive and to please send you an itemised description of the charges.

2) Offer to pay about 50% of what they are asking in full settlement failing which you will be challenging the amount of charges in court.

3) If you have to go to the small claims court, it will cost you about £100, but the banks always give in before that point. Please also note that even if the bank agrees to your terms, it will probably ask you to close your account and you will have the hassle of opening another a/c at a different bank.

You don't say why the DD was missed - was it a bank error, or did you fail to keep enough money in your account or exceed your o/d limit to cover them?

If it is your fault, you may struggle to get a refund, but the bank may make a one-off refund (ie one of the charges) as a goodwill gesture

If it was their fault all along, you shouldn't have any difficulty getting your money back.

Whatever the outcome, the way they deal with your query should help you decide whether to continue banking with them. Remember, you are their customer - they make money off you, so they should be nice to you!

you might be recieving these charges for something that has to do with your account. You might want to find out what kind of account you have first that might be the problem on why you keep getting these charges. If you want your money back try talking directly to the person who opened your account and let them know you have no idea why these charges are being put on your account and ask them to help you out. Maybe then they will go in and re-analyze your account and fix the problem so it doesn't happen again.

Talk to a customer representative or personal banker over there. If possible, talk to the bank manager. Bring whatever paperwork you need over there.
