I trying to figure out how much money would be takin out of my check if 10% was taking out of $40.000.

10% of $40.00 is $4.00 so they would take $4.00 out, nice try, nearly got me too!!!!

The decimal point in the top number is at the $40.00 spot that is why you got an answer of $4.00. If it should be a (,) then the answer is $4,000.00.

$4.00 is 10% of $40.000
$4,000 is 10% of $40,000

It depends on your use of a "." or a ","

4,000 is right, just for future reference, if you want to know what a percentage of something is. divide the percent by 100, then multiply it by what you want to know is a percentage is.
10% of 40,000 is 10 divided 100 which is .10 multiply it 40,000 it equals 4,000
(percent divided 100 times amount)
