i am retired and live on SS and have been using credits Cards and now I am getting to a point where I can't afford them and just want to stop. What is the worst that can happen? I don't care about my credit rating cuz I will not be buying a car or home again. If they call to collect I will just ignore their calls. If they sue me can I just ignore that to? Can I go to jail?

I am currently in the market to purchase my first home. I have great credit and fairly low debt. I am also expecting to get hired at a new job w/in a month or 2 and will make 15%+ over what I make now. Would it be better to get pre-qualified for a mortgage now or should I wait? If I wait, will the lender frown on a short time at the new job?

Right. I don't want to pay a cheque into my natwest account (due to the overdraft!). Instead my mum is offering to give me a cheque payable to cash:

[a] what does she need to write on the back of the cheque? (If anything)

[b] what will I need to take with me

[c] if I am a natwest customer and I take the cheque to natwest ... will they cash it for free?

Many thanks everyone!

My dad belonged to a credit union and before he died, my name was placed jointly on his credit union account with him. I think it is because he was scammed by a savvy car dealer and I paid his monthly payment on the account until his car was paid off shortly before he died. Why is there credit available on the statement? What does that mean?

My Bank charged me $32 for a .99 overdraft. Is this legal? I know that banks are exempt from state usury laws, but it's not fair under any circumstances. I wrote to their customer service dept. and they said it was a valid charge. On 6/9 I made an online purchase for .99, usually funds are withheld immediately and listed as pending. Three days later I had an emergency and had to withdraw all the available funds out of my account. To make a long story short, my .99 purchase made three days prior to my final withdrawal cost me $32! I believe in paying for my mistakes, but this is ridiculous. There is nothing "valid" about this charge. I was wondering if banks have fee or usury limits.
