Right. I don't want to pay a cheque into my natwest account (due to the overdraft!). Instead my mum is offering to give me a cheque payable to cash:

[a] what does she need to write on the back of the cheque? (If anything)

[b] what will I need to take with me

[c] if I am a natwest customer and I take the cheque to natwest ... will they cash it for free?

Many thanks everyone!

my wife is an ex natwest employee.
You will not be able to cash this cheque at your branch, unless your mum holds a natwest cheque account.
If so, your mum will need to make the cheque payable to your name. In the crossing( the 2 lines in the middle of the cheque) she will need to write, pay cash and sign it with her full signiture -still in side the lines-. Also sign it in the normal way.
Or take it to your mums branch and sign it as above.
Will def. need to take i.d with you i.e driving licence, passport.
plus it also depends on the amount of the cheque.
Don't make it out for too much
Best idea is for your mum to ring up her bank and ask what they require, as all banks have diffrent ways of doing things

Your Mum would need to go into the bank and write a cheque to herself as Pay 'CASH'.

If yr account is used the bank will want to clear any unauthorised borrowing.

But if you are say overdrawn by £500 and your overdraft is £600, then you could pay it in ok and they won't care. So long as you are in your limit.

If you in in your limit, pay the cheque in and then will allow you to draw it out immediatly.

She needs to endorse the back and write" this check payable to..."whatever your name is. than you sign it. They should cash it if you have an accnt there. but they might insist you deposit it to cover your overdraft. bummer.

No they won't cash it for you. They will insist you bank it.
