Milton Friedman once said that managers are solely responsible for making a profit for their shareholders and should not consider the wider ethical implications of their actions other than keeping within the law. Can anyone think of any writers or influential people or companies who agree with this statement?

Thanks!

What do they teach in business schools today? Ethics? Long-term vision? Conviction?

Funny how Toyota's good fortune came by sheer LUCK...lucky enough to realize that profits will ALWAYS come as a function of quality, not gimmicks.

But at least you might get a $210,000,000 severence package for being shown the door...now THAT's vision, eh?

The company is being sold for 20+ million dollars. She doesn't have a good relationship with the family at this moment. How does she stake her claim to her 4%? She's worried about getting cheated out of what she worked very hard for many years ago. Hiring a lawyer isn't feasible due to her finanacial condition.

Is it unethacal for my company to change my commission structure because I have built a big back log of orders? In 2006 I had a very good sales year and built a big back log of orders for shipment in 2007. Now they changed my commssion structure to reduce the amount of commission I will be paid. My sales target number have remained the same as the other Sales Managers, However my commission structure was the only one that changed because of the large back log. IS a company allowed to do this?

I have been a member of Ebay for quite some time, and hadn't had any problems with them until now. I had a couple of auctions going this week (Jan. 2007) that I was really excited about, as they were getting very good bids. One of the auctions ended last night, and so I had sent the winner an invoice for the item. I was planning on checking my ebay account this morning to see if I had received any emails from the buyer, or if payment had been made yet. However, when I logged on to my account, I got a message saying my account was suspended for being involved in activities that violate their policy. I've never done such a thing, as I always followed the rules on ebay, and had never gotten any complaints or warnings about a possible suspension.
Not only that, but since Ebay is in cahoots with Paypal, my paypal account has been put on limited access. However, the reason that paypal gave me, was different than Ebay's reason, and both were vague. Now, I'm out of a lot of money..and upset.
