I just had a 1 hour talk (which could have been an argument, I don't know) about corporations and stuff like that. He was not clear or straight forward about anything, gave me useless information, repeated stuff over and over, and kept giving me answers that didn't have anything to do with the question. So I came here.

I was told that corporations wouldn't put warning labels and stuff like that on their products if they didn't have to because it would save them money. Is it true that corporations would do this (tobacco and alcohol corporations aside)? Especially the toy ones?
Also, if someone starts smoking and gets addicted, is it their fault? My dad didn't say yes or no and just gave me this info that I already knew.

Is it not strange that Toyota's good fortunes are a result of...lack of vision?...short-term greed?...poor quality product...

When the QUALITY of ANY product is paramount, the money comes as a FUNCTION of that...people are always willing to pay for quality, but not always to pay for gimmicks.

Maybe that's something that should be taught in America's business school's...privatize the company(so you are not slaves to a few major stockholders who raid the coffers at every turn), and have a sense of vision(beyond dollars signs in your eyes).

I am a newly promoted team leader. Unfortunately, I am at the same store I started in, and I have known all my guys for 2 years. I was always "one of the guys", and now my team seems to be having difficulty understanding the transition of my promotion. Since being promoted about four months ago, they are showing behavior that I did not see as a stock clerk. They constantly challange my instructions and refuse to do what I ask. I have tried to change the way I approach them by rewarding their good behavior, and even begging. I've tried being nice, authoritative, threatening, etc. Nothing seems to work. I'm at my wits end. I fear that if I can't achieve a respectful relationship with my guys, not only will the store suffer, but my further advancement in the company will be hindered. How can I maintain a friendly, fun working environment with my crew , and still be the strong authority figure when no manager is around?
