Hi. I am getting a bit anxious as tax season arrives and we are trying to estimate our return before we go into the accountant. I file joint with my wife and we net ~200K. The deductions i have will be identical to the ones I had last year. Last year we got back $6800 from federal and $1500 from state (CA). This year is our turn to claim my step-son as a dependant and we also added another dependant with our first child in Feb of 2006. Based on my last year return, what should I count on bringing in with the two added dependants? Will my return be much larger? Thanks for your help.

Hi everyone!
Long story short, I was selling something on the internet and received a check for way over the amount asked. The buyer asked that I "send the leftover money with his secretary". Thinking this was fishy, I checked with friends who referred me to Snopes (http://www.snopes.com/crime/fraud/cashier.asp ).

What is the best way to report this, if I can?

I recently applied for an apartment and was approved. After being approved I stopped looking for other places to live because I was told I could move into the apartment I wanted. The next business day I was again told I was approved and that I could come in and sign the lease and pick up my keys.

About 30 minutes later I received a call from the apartment saying that I might in fact not be approved and they wanted to get more information from about a bill that was showing up on my credit report (the bill has already been paid in full but it still shows up).

Are they allowed to do this after they had already approved me. I have a voice recording on my phone from them clearly stating I was approved. Is this something I can take legal action with, is there a government agency I can complain too about this? Any help would be appreciated

I'm addressing envelopes to send to restaurant managers, but I'm not putting a name on the envelope. How should I label the outside? I was thinking it should say ATT: operating manager or something. Any advice?

I just don't know how to pick the right company.
My instinct is to comp the companies last few months sales and see how they did.
Is there any way to really find out if a company will do well? One company wants $8-10,000 for marketing. They charge the buyer 10% on top of the winning bid.
The other company, no marketing $ but charges me 5% of the sale with no reserve so it may look better but I can't tell ...I am in Los Angeles. No agents that don't really know the answer please (who just want to flap their jaw to 'get ' a listing from me which will not happen). Thank You !!!

Hey guys,

I have been taking care of my 81 year old grandmother for about 5 years now and have never claimed her. She is a United States citizen; unemployeed; recieving SSI; food stamps and living with me in rental subsidized housing.

Many of her expenses are covered by the state, but many other expenses aren't. I take her to all her doctor's appointments; purchase food for her that isn't covered by her food stamps; pay the phone bill; pay the cable bill and many other miscellaneous costs.

Although money doesn't come out of my pocket all the time to take care of her, she is blind and deaf, which requires me to do absolutely everything for her, including giving medication; washing her clothes; folding her clothes; cleaning after her; doing all her shopping; her cooking and changing her diapers.

I'm having a hard time grasping the 50% issue because in my opinion, I spend a lot of time taking care of her and a whole lot of gas money, plus the other expenses listed.

Ok its long but here I go. My grandparents both passed away within like 2 weeks of each other. After they passed we learned than my grandfathers son had borrowed alot of money from him. So much that he decided to take out a reverse mortgage on their house. Now both him and my grandmothers names were on the title. BUT here comes the tricky part. My mother had Power of Attorney over my grandmother. My grandmother was not able to feed herself let alone sign papers or understand anything that was going on. If she had been she would have never agreed to do that. So my grandfather did this without my mother(the power of attorney) knowing. So when they passed away the house and the 30,000 dollars in credit card debt got passed to my mother. Now the reverse mortgage company is saying they need the money back (which they will take out of the house) but we need the money for their debt. Now I guess what I am asking is that if we go to court saying that my grandmother could not have signed or if

I've seen people ask "What's the best way to pay a model for a shoot" and many people answer "Cash".

I would like to do the same but also claim the models cost as a business expense. If I pay them cash, how can I prove that I paid them? I would like to ask some models who pose for photographers how they get paid and if the models give the photographer anything, or what?

I don't want to get in trouble with the IRS when they ask to prove I paid them. Thanks a million for your response! :-)
