End of July had bad car accident. Air bags deployed, car was totalled (insurance co. already paid property damage - other guy was at fault), but now there will be a medical settlement. The injuries were mostly large, nasty bruises and abrasions on arms and chest from air bags and seat belt. Went to the doctor, now pretty much healed, altho lot of pain for a time...couldn't pick up a cup for instance. The adjuster is coming to see us (my grandaughter was injured, too), and I know he's going to make an offer, but it will probably be small. I am retired, so no wage loss was incurred, but hey! It HURT! And I lost my car for over a month. I perform the function of "gramma-taxi" daily for my family and it was very stressfu not having a car plus dealing with the injuries. I don't want a lot - after all - we all have to pay for insurance claims, but I don't want to be mistreated either. And, I don't want to contact our attorney, really. Just wanna deal with it fairly. Any suggestions?

We live in Mississippi and my mom would like to move into an assisted living home . She will not be able to move for 2 months and they are asking for $2900.00 for a down payment - that is 2 months rent for a semi private room. This seems extreme to me. Has anyone here had this experience and is it a normal practice? I would appreciate any input.

Thanks,
Tricia

Okay, So I have started my business and I get lots of calls for it. However I work 9 to 5 and I cannot call the people back to get them what they need. This is the only way I will get paid. Now it is a bit of a catch 22 because I cannot quit my job, i get paid alot and it covers my rent and the money that i use to keep my business running( not alot of money- just website fees and some minimal advertising). i do not have an office for my new business and do not want to invest in one as of yet. Should I hire someone part time to make the calls and get the ball rolling? This would mean that they would need to work out of my house while I am at work and I am not too comfortable with that. someone please give me some advice. I really want this to take off and I am not giving it my all because i am lettig customers fall between the cracks.

I recently resigned, giving my employer 2 weeks notice. I was asked to leave that day because I am going to a competitor. I asked if the 2 weeks was paid out and my HR rep said no. I have since heard that they are required to pay that to the employee as long as they are not fired. Is this true?

I have a very bad credit rating. When i say bad i mean B-A-A-A-D.

It started when i turned 18 and the temptation to get store cards was too much for me and I got 3 at once and was given high credit limits but didnt have the means to pay them all at the time as i only had a Saturday job.

If i knew what i know now about handling finances and credit I would have been more sensible and educated myself 1st before taking out credit.
My problem now is that my credit rating now is very bad i cannot even apply to open a current account without being declined straight away.
I now worry because I am 21 and would like to buy a house but if i cant open a current account my chances are very slim.
How can i improve my credit rating???

Its also funny how financial institutions are so quick to offer people credit but when you get in a bad situation they do not offer a service to help. Guess thats how they make money off of vunerable people.

Any good advice would be appreciated.

Do they use an armored boat or something? Does the USAF donate a cargo plane? Or does Hawaii print it's own cash supply?

Several months ago my bi-polar son accessed my eBay account and put down payments on two plots of land. In order to maintain my good reputation, I have been trying to keep up with the payments, but it is very hard on Social Security. I'm old! I'm tired! I'm scared! Anyway, I have invested 4 payments of $125/mo on each of them but one is a six year committment at 9% interest. The other one is also $125/mo but is no interest and is for 20 months. I know I will lose what I have put in, but I think I should cut my losses and bail out now on the big one. I have, of course, changed my access and done whatever I can do to protect myself from further damage, but the way it is now I can't afford to get anything for myself anyway! Is it stupid to lose what is invested in order to prevent any further expense? I'm too embarrassed to ask anyone in my family since they will say - you should not have let him in the house!
