It depends on what you are selling. If you are selling heavy items such as furniture you might want to stick with news paper or yard sale. If the item costs too much to it might not sell on ebay. If you post an item on ebay you must pay fees even if the item does not sell. A great alternative to ebay for larger items would be Craigslist.com. which still gets large amounts of traffic.
Ebay is a good option if you have a unique item or a high demand item. Check out ebay to see what the going rate for items similar to what you are looking at selling. Good luck either way.
In most cases with ebay auctions are better than buy it nows.

That depends on so many variables. Where you live, what you are selling, how much you charge. I have done both. With a garage sale, you do a lot of work to get ready, and take the chance that nobody shows up. I have also found that people think because it is a garage sale, everything should be dirt cheap and they will always try to offer less. Up side to this that you get the money in hand all at once and don't have to pay any fees or ship items.
On Ebay, I sometimes get more for items than I paid for them, or at least you can start the bidding at what you want to get for an item. You do have to drive to the post office, pack and ship and pay fees, but overall, I think it is a better way to sell your best items. Good luck!

Definitely Ebay. Not only do you have more people from all over looking at what youre selling BUT you can charge more and you get a small profit off the shipping charges as well. Garage sales or for people desperate to get rid of their stuff.

A garage sale for all those little things. Why lose all your profit in shipping costs?
EBay for those larger or more expensive items that never sell well at garage sales anyway, and all truly expensive items. If you're making a good profit, shipping costs are incidental.

I would say from eBay. You will have buyers from all over the world looking at your treasures as opposed to the local neighborhood for your garage sale. Of course you won't be able to get rid of stuff like old clothes, have a garage sale for those.

You might make more by selling on eBay, but is it worth the hassle of listing all your items, contacting all the winners, and shipping everything? It depends on what you are selling and how much you want to make. For lots of small inexpensive items, I would do the garage sale just to avoid the hassle of dealing with all the shipping.

Ebay because you have a larger customer base and can charge more. People go to Garage sales to spend as little as possible.

On Ebay, people are often willing to spend as much as possible, and quite a few vendors charge outrageous amounts just on shipping prices. At garage sales, people want to spend as little as they can.

it depends on what your selling, if you're only selling a few items-go eBay
if you're selling quite a few do a garage sale but try to avoid items people already have enough of (Ex. Clothes)
