I will have my AAS in Accounting next may and would like to move to Charlotte, NC to complete my 4-year degree. Being a single mom, I will need to work and have a place to stay before I actually start school. I hired a collection agency to collect some outdated business debts for my company, they collected the money, but say not that they can't pay me my part. I have a copy of the customers cashed check, is there any legal proceedings that I can follow? I am in KY and the collection agency is in FL. We are talking 9000.00, and they are trying to get me to settle with them for 10% of 70%, and telling me if I don't they will file. The company is in Fort Lauderdale, Adam's Johnson And Murphy. I ask this because a few months ago I had about $1,500 in credit card debt at about 9% interest. I thought this was a lot. Then I read that the average American has credit card debt in the amounts of 2x-10x what I have here, and at double the interest rate.

Why are Americans willing to borrow so much? Does this correlate to the national savings average being a negative percent? And lastly, once everyone is totally broke and so far in debt that they can never pay it off, who is going to foot the bill in the end?
