It appears to be hand carved and is made from dark wood. It is not painted and stands about 2 foot tall. He is standing and has a spear and a shield. He is only about 4 inches wide and 3 inches deep.

I wish to continue my blacksmithing but there is so little need for blacksmiths. The only reason I do it is to preserve my heritage and maintain the secrecy of our family steel forgeing techniques(i.e swordsmithing.) I feel as if me being a blacksmith is losing its purpose.

Okay, so I admit, I don't have money for a Chihuly but would love to throw a few hundred to an artist that might be doing "similar" work or is at least an established and creative glass blower.

A friend who just got back from Japan gave me a calligraphy set. Included are two soapstone chop stamps. I want to carve them, but I want to know if there's anything I need to know before starting (what tools will I need, what's the proper technique, what should I avoid, stuff like this).

I'm trying my hand at sculpture, after having spent the last several years working primarily in paint, and collage. I'm embarking on this effort in clay, the type that doesn't dry out until you want it to. I am really wanting to bring some of the images I've paintd to life in a 3rd dimensional way. I find though, that I get so distracted, and one brilliant idea turns into another, and, ultimately, after hours of work, I still have a blank blob of clay, though exceedingly intriguing adventures while ending up back where I started. With that said, I'm wondering -- fellow artists -- did you have a hard time focusing? Is there something you might recommend as a starting point? With painting and sketching, it's all a rather quick start to finish process. Not this though, and I really, truly want to be able to have a finished product. I feel like I'm doing a disservice to the face, the form, with my humble attempts at realism. Any ideas? thanks so much!

I have used the whtie sculpy clay...but they come out of the oven looking pinkish. I tried to bake the clay at a shorter time to stay light colored but they are too breakable because they don't bake long enough....

What kind of clay will stay white after being baked or air dried?

'Am looking to procure one, or more [depending on price, of course], to add to my personal collection. 'Am also considering [and this is ONLY a possiblity at this time] making this particular art-work-type available to the Dallas & Fort Worth, Texas market in the future. For more details on this idea and thought process, feel free to contact me. Leave a msg. ... Sincerely, Larry Ray F
