It is broken into many small peices. Would like it to have clear backing and monding for light to show through.

I guess I would start with a glass plate, and use a strong glue that dries clear to adhere the pieces in a pleasing arrangement on the plate. Then you'll need grout - available at lowe's. Follow the instructions on the package. And voila! You have yourself a mosaic plate.

either get a clear plate and glue it down or just a flat piece of glass and glue it to that there is a small tube of glass that most stores carries and it is made especially for glass a tiny bit work ks well and it dries completely clear you will recognize it as it comes in a little three inch long syringe that is bright red remember just just a tiny bit any over spill from under the glass can be wiped away later as it will not be dry should like a cool way to still have the plate around
