Anyone here bypass their normal computer and go to an older computer in the house when trying to write creatively (or even use more archaic tools, such as a typewriter or a pad and pen)?

Stalled in a creative effort, I re-hooked up my old Apple IIgs computer that I used to do some of my best work on.

One of my close friends loves poetry, but I don't have a lot of money to spend on gifts. Since she adores poetry, I'm thinking of writing a poem and dedicating it to her. Would this be cheap or is it acceptable?

I base my gift giving on the line that "It's the thought that counts", but what should I do here?

Okay, please dont say to me "Its your homework, you do it!" I have been searching for about 3 days now, so believe me, I have tried. I need to find a poem with these 5 elements:
Craftsmanship
Recognition
Imagination
Identification
Surprise

Today I was able to define my wealth.
Can't afford a doctor, but assume some fair health.
96 cents and a can of beans;
with a rent check due to tax my means.

But it's the holiday season and I'll find some cheer
in Wild Wolf Shiraz and a few cans of beer.
No gloom and/or doom for me this time,
for this too shall pass, as I move toward sublime.

It's not like I have never been "here"
climbing hills in a very low gear.
I count each breath as a bounty, "Cachingggg"
and those old standard carols, smiles, I do try to sing.

So make your lists and check them twice,
don't worry so much about naughty or nice,
and as a "Newbie" I just wanna say,
may your know your wealth on that certain day.

Happy holidays to all, however you celebrate,
I ask "Don't wake me early on 01/01/08."
If you're Chinese you can party for two New Years, eves
and make me some OOLONG, I have fresh green leaves.

My storm of anger is borderline
to a hurricane of wrath,
exterminating everything
in it's unsuspecting path.
Despite of my calm exterior
of me, it shatters
people's facades
by my fierce,
seething stare.

If my eyes were in contact
of you right this moment,
the piercing scream
of my eyes would
blast your glass
composed exterior-
into a million jagged pieces.

Hush now.

I don't want
to destroy you.
I don't want to be
ruined by my own
hurricane of somberness
and guilt, in result
of seeing your shattered
ruins of your remains, glittering
like diamond dust
on the floor.

Lives wind blows through
Another kid born
His life not decided
Moms problems collided
Dad backs out
doesn’t call
doesn’t look
Another page in an endless book
Kid gets older
Life gets colder
His troubles pile high
Stacks that reach the sky
Mom tried to care
Dad not there
Life not fare
A constant prayer

As life goes on
His troubles show
He finds his foes

He meats a girl
Thinks its love
But when push comes to shove

When people got close

poetry.com sent me some stuff about being entered into some contest. i something was up if i'm being awarded with something i have to pay for. i started looking on yahoo answers and see other ppl saying the same thing. the poem i gave them is a very nice poem(not tryna brag) and if there just a scam i would love to get it into a competition where i actually have a chance of winning something for it at least.

I woke with words tangled
Under my nails,
As blood beneath
Dragon scales...during
The kill.

Something, someone...

Will stop breathing

A New Year
For every year I have survived,
There's one event stands out.
The ringing in of every year,
Where people cry and shout.
We wonder where the old year goes,
And what will come anew.
We wonder if the one to come,
Is good or all askew.
Will we get rich or maybe poor?
Will we be nice and proud?
Our hopes and dreams are floating there,
As if upon a cloud.
Our thoughts go forth to things anew,
They dwell not in the past.
We hope that all will be just fine,
That happiness will last.
We pray for peace around the globe,
Wherever young ones fight.
And pray for leaders everywhere,
To finally see the light.
To hunger in our own back yard,
We wish to make an end.
The rift between those black and white,
We wish that we could mend.

Hypocrisy

Hypocrisy is what you see everyday on your tv.
Why are we content with "democracy",
when all it takes is you and me to start a ripple in the sea?
Democracy's another form of monarchy.
So you tell me; are we headed for anarchy,
or just another hierarchy that leads to more bureaucracy?

My friend this on his space and wanted me to comment on it but I don't know what to say. I think it's kinda dorky but I like the way it sounds. What do you think of it?
If you think it's dorky too, what should I say?
