Anyone here bypass their normal computer and go to an older computer in the house when trying to write creatively (or even use more archaic tools, such as a typewriter or a pad and pen)?

Stalled in a creative effort, I re-hooked up my old Apple IIgs computer that I used to do some of my best work on.

Well, I used to write on this 10 year old computer in my room. Every time I write on that computer, it seems like my writings are more decent for some reason, and I could finish short stories. But since my old computer mysteriously broke down, I wrote on the newer computer ever since. And as a result, I never was that much satisfied with my writings.

But other than that, I do always write rough drafts of my writings on paper.

I have an Alphasmart Neo word processor which I use when I'm away from the computer or when I find I'm getting distracted.

Sometimes I'll use pen and paper, but my penmanship is pretty bad, especially when the ideas are coming faster than I can write.

I always use a notebook and pen. It's too easy to delete and edit as you write on a laptop and that crushes the initial creativity.

Once you get a complete first draft, take it to the computer.

as one who experiences those trying times too often, i can empathize with any effort to get those creative juices flowing again, and dropping the routine for awhile can be just what a person needs. i hope it works for you, but it says something that you're on Y!A

I use pad and pen for my most challenging writing tasks. I'm not exactly a writer, but writing is often required of me.
