Here's the part: "Whatever happened to the spirit of giving? / Happiness,___________, or just plain living,"

I just can't fill the blank with anything. Or I do, but I don't like it.

It's a slam poem- just kingd of ranting about the distortion of the meaning of Chirstmas, not very original, I know, but most the kids in my class are writng about school, homework, etc. so I think it'll be ok.

just realized I put it the punctuation wrong. There's supposed to be a comma after the first stanza and the question mark is supposed to be after the second stanza.

Get rid of the word "or" and just use another comma. Then you can use a 3-syllable word.

I doesn't make sense to me. You start by saying "what happened to the spirit of giving" Then you go on to say happiness, blank, or just plain living....

I would coin on the what happened to the spirit of giving and move into discussing that thought. You totally changed gears.

Something like

Whatever happened to the spirit of giving?
People are all around
just plain living

etc etc

Good Luck!
