Philosophy - May 2007

[Selected]: All categories Arts & Humanities Philosophy

Which would be a greater philosopher, a philosopher who parrot others ideas, a philosopher who takes others ideas and expands on them or a philosopher who generates new ideas.

A philosopher who parrots others ideas would be able to select which philosophy rings true for them and pass this on to others, therefore keeping the ideas alive within the community.

A philosopher who takes others ideas and expands on them can select the that rings true for them and take it to the next step before passing them on, therefore allowing ideas and concepts to evolve with each generation.

A philosopher who generates new ideas would provide new fodder for the first two to use, and therefore provides more to the 'mixing bowl' of ideas.

Which of these philosophers is greater in works and function. The definition of greater can be up to you but please explain why you selected them.

Serious answers only.

Thanks.

do these evil people really think they are doing good? Take for example the terrorists, they actually think they are doing good, how do people come to this conclusion and feel that its ok to do this to other people? Now, lets talk about individuals, they like being evil to others? or is it some sort of retribution behind their motives?

Is it a big chain that when one commits an act of evil another will get mad or seek vengeance upon the evil person whether through revenge or the law putting him to death and its like a cycle, so good breeds good, correct? Evil is a terrible thing

okay... before you say its farce, I know its real!
I have had first hand experience. I grewup in India.
And by what I understand and know about it, it was never born with an intention to cause any harm. It was a very radical science and even today it is practiced that way by many.

But my question is... can it be called a science? as it actually contradicts several scientific laws... and there is no rational explanation about how it works.

and it cannot be called an art as it is a mere ritual which lacks any kind of aesthetic beauty, even though it has traditionally been associated with religions and cultures.

but it has to fall under either of those categories because it is a concentrated action which has a desired effect!

what is your opinion?

thank you for your answers!

Many people think they ask big questions when they say things like "what is the meaning of life" or "is there a god?"

While puny people quibble over petty detail, the REAL question in the universe still remains unanswered!!!!!

The point of philosophy is to start with something so simple as to seem not worth stating, and to end with something so paradoxical that no one will believe it."
