The meaning of life is for all human beings to work towards one goal.

The goal:

To figure out if Humpty Dumpty fell of the wall... Or was pushed!

80% of humanity, the religious folks, don't need to ask the meaning of life, the church tells them....the supernatural explanation. But the rest of us can't swallow religious dogma, because there's no evidence. Nobody can prove that there life after death, that people are tortured or rewarded after life or that there's invisible spirits running around.

I've come to two conclusions recently:

1. Life has no meaning
2. Life has a million meanings.

First, there's a certainty that death and annihilation awaits not only you, but the Earth in general. It's an astonomical certainty that our sun will supernova and leave the earth a burnt crisp, not to mention all the other extinction level events around the corner.

Second, the million things that give us meaning are the pleasurable experiences we can conjure up during the short period we are here on the earth, in the form of the relationships we have with our kids and other people, and the 'housekeeping' types of purposes. What i mean by that are the curing disease, ending hunger, improving literacy, reducing crime, preventing war, helping other kinds of things.

So the bottom line is, we only have a temporary meaning to life, to reduce pain and increase pleasure, other than that everything is lost to oblivion.

To be or not to be? "To be" is temporary and "not to be" is inevitable.....

"Life" objectively has a meaning that can be found in any dictionary. It is a biological function. What you are thinking of though is individual lives. An individual's life is given a meaning that is indeterminate until the moment of its completion. That is, you can't really know what a story means until you read the ending of it right? You make decisions throughout your life and from that is derived the meaning of your life. So, every life means something different. You can't prove reincarnation or a life after death with any certainty since faith is belief without evidence, so shouldn't you make the one life that you can prove you get mean something great? Furthermore, if you are not living the best life you can, shouldn't you struggle until you die since living your (only as can be proven) one-and-only chance at existence is not worth it unless you live up to yourself? I hope this poses more questions to you than answers provided for you, because that is the purpose of life.

there really isnt any specific meaning such as the general populus searches for. We're here to eat, procreate, and die pretty much. Acceptance of this fact makes life so much easier. But in the meanwhile I think it's still a good idea to respect the basic human principles of morality. Dont go out hurting people, etc and you'll find life much more enjoyable.

Whatever definition we might give to the meaning of life does not suffice because this will remain limitless as long as life lasts . It is a bless coming down from heaven and a heavenly bless is not bound to specific meaning.

Everbody's meaning is different. Everyone is living for a different reason and life means something totally different to each of us.

I don't know the meaning of life, but I do know the reason for life.

The reason for life is to be honorable.

The reason is that "reason" requires honesty of belief in the premises that you start with. Reason is merely the deduction or justification from assumed premises, but for reason to be reasonable it requires honesty of belief in those assumed premises. There can be no reasoning without honesty of belief. Honesty of belief requires honor. Thus, the reason for life is to be honorable.

Someone asks this SAME question almost everyday. Save yourself some points next time and search for the answer to your questions before posting the same things again and again.
