I am looking for facts on whut life was like for creole New Orleans (LA) in the late 1800's when French men were having affairs with former slaves, but keeping their "black" family descret from their "white" family. In the midst of that, they wanted the mulatto girls to look more white so they could go on to marry white men & have a better life. Is there any good FACTUAL website about this time & era of the past?
