readily accessible "help meet"? Or was the lovely Mrs Churchill ever accomodating? One might find both the great man's girth and cigar distracting, and I've heard nasty rumors of an STD being passed along in the family. Does anyone care to elucidate us on Churchill's affairs d' cour? If so, spit it out.

Youre a 10th century European peasant. Your skin is pasty white. Your face is rotting from lack of fruits and vegetables in your diet. The king whips you for not accepting his version of the Bible. The plague has wiped out half of your family, and every year, there's a new lunatic monarch who rapes children and eats his own skin. Your genitals turned black and fell off last month because of frostbite. You're wearing rags and its 20 below.

The Pope says that Jesus Christ loves you and will reward you with eternal life in a warm, happy afterlife, if only you wouldn't mind travelling to Asia Minor to slaughter the Muslim invaders.

"Hmm... maybe I can warm myself with the blood of the infidel."

Maybe yes. Of course he "talked" of getting out shortly before he was killed. One has to remember that President Diem was assassinated some two weeks before Kennedy was going to be assassinated also. It is a curious thing that Diem's political sister, Madame Ngu, or Nhu, and you can see this lady interviewed in youtube.com, thought that Kennedy was going to intervene anyway. And that was the position of Dean Rusk, secretary of state, and Robert Mcnamara, then secretary of defense. Robert Kennedy. killed in 1968 by a crazy Palestinian, also wanted USA get into Vietnam. Feedback, please.

It is a fully accepted historical fact that the Romans (and other peoples of that era) transported many good, including wine and olive oil, in amphorae, the remains of which are found all over the Empire. I have read that the shape of the amphorae varied from area to area and from commodity to commodity. However, they all share the characteristics of having rounded bases and being mainly tall and fairly slim. This seems, to me, to be a basically unstable design, particularly for carrying liquids. Which led me to wonder why they were designed in such a way, why they did no have flat bases and what were the advantages (if any) of the design. Comments would be appreciated,

I'm reading a book about the sinking of the Lusitania and it includes a discussion about how coal was bunkered in such ships. Apparently the Lusitania had longitudinal bunkers, whilst Titanic had transverse and may be one of the reasons why the former sunk in 17 minutes but the latter took over two hours. This led me to wonder how and where the coal was loaded into those bunkers. Was it done at the pier or quay where passengers boarded? Would this have not been extremely dirty? Or did they go to a bunkering point - like a steam locomotive being coaled 'on shed' usually by gravity from overhead hoppers.

Just anything about alliances, it doesnt have to be ones they made themselves. It could be how the french-russian affected their decision.. Also any addition information about why turkey/ottoman empire joins WWI would be appreciated also. (Nationalism??)

contributed to the countries' prosperity?

I just need an explanation from these phrases:

"The great rivers Rhine, Meuse, and Scheldt, with their many tributaries, supplemented by canals, form navigable waterways which have contributed so much to the prosperity of these countries."

"The fertile land and the great navigable rivers created and maintained a number of Medieval states and prosperous cities, dependent culturally on either France or Germany."

is it pertaining to trading, etc? I don't know exactly what it is talking about.

thanks.
