Maybe yes. Of course he "talked" of getting out shortly before he was killed. One has to remember that President Diem was assassinated some two weeks before Kennedy was going to be assassinated also. It is a curious thing that Diem's political sister, Madame Ngu, or Nhu, and you can see this lady interviewed in youtube.com, thought that Kennedy was going to intervene anyway. And that was the position of Dean Rusk, secretary of state, and Robert Mcnamara, then secretary of defense. Robert Kennedy. killed in 1968 by a crazy Palestinian, also wanted USA get into Vietnam. Feedback, please.

John F. Kennedy increased the U.S. troop level in Vietnam from the 500 there when Dwight D. Eisenhower left office to 16,000 at the time of his own death. If he had lived longer, he would have sent even more troops. It is possible that he would not have escalated as rapidly as did Lyndon B. Johnson, but uncertain: He had made it clear he believed the U.S. had to bear any burden to preserve and promote democracy, so it is very likely he would have believed he had to send an increasing number of American troops to Vietnam.

Shortly before his death,in an interview with Walter Cronkite on national television,JFK stated he intended to withdraw from Vietnam.More importantly,JFK signed an order initiating the withdrawl.A few days after his death, this order was quietly rescinded by Lyndon Johnson.Had Kennedy lived and been re-elected,there would have been no Vietnam war.Who told you Robert Kennedy wanted the US in Vietnam? That's complete hogwash. The murder of Diem and his brother in 1963 had nothing to due with keeping America in Vietnam.Madame Ngu is not a credible source. She was called the Dragon Lady for a reason.

My view has always been, having lived through the 60s, that had John Kennedy lived and had he served a second term (a not unreasonable proposition) then his presidency would have been viewed in a far less rosy light than actually happened. He would have been mired in the mess of Vietnam and that is what history would have judged him on. However, it is all hypothetical, but I do like considering 'alternative history'.

J.F.K. wanted to withdraw from Vietnam and had plans for a complete withdrawal, this is even supported in a book by Robert McNamara. On Oct. 11, 1963 Kennedy signed NSAM 263 initiating the withdrawal of 1000 of the 16,000 troops in Vietnam. America would have a different history had J.F.K. lived.

The murder of JFK was the worst thing to happen to our country. This was a noble man, who every day suffered from excruciating back pain, yet still found the strength to deal with a number of crises taking place in the world at the time. Whoever it is that posted he botched cuba is an ignorant person. If it were not for his resolve and strength, we would have been at war with Russia. In my mind, JFK could do no wrong. He would have done so much good for the country. As for the Vietnam mess, we were already in it. Just like the wars we are fighting now we should have never been there.

I doubt it, Kennedy sowed the seeds of the Viet Nam quagmire by sending "advisers" to assist the SO. Viet Nam army.

kennedy was a pussy of a president. he abandoned the freedom fighters at the bay of pigs, he caused the missile crisis by back stabbing kruschev, and refusing to honor his promise to take missiles out of pakistan. he started the viet nam war, and was so stupidly arrogant, he and that idiot macnamara would have waged that war the exact same way that johnson did. talking about getting out means nothing. every contingency is constantly discussed during wartime. he was NOT honorable, he was a liar and he stole the 1960 election.
